We stumbled on this small village that was known for woodworking. All over the country, you could find the various handcrafts. As with most tourists, we were searching for that perfect souvenir that wasn't 'Made in China'.
We went into one craft shop that was loaded with the Ox Carts - the national symbol. There were all colors and designs, in various sizes, of the things. We ended up chatting with the young salesman for at least an hour or two. He showed us the workshop.
The man below was son of the founder and had been working there painting ox carts since he was 7.
We ended up buying one large enough that we could use to store our various bottles of schnapps and liquor...then we fretted the next 36 hours about customs since we decided to bring it with us as a carry on (packed, it was the size of a large suitcase).
You can get a small feel for the artistry with the wheels below.
Afterwards, we were really hungry. We asked the salesman what he would recommend. He said that his store's cafeteria was ok...but overpriced. He sent us to his buddy down the street, and we had a great, filling meal.
The restaurant is to Eva's right. We would have probably never walked in without the recommendation, but it was definitely worth it.
