The S-Word

I don't know when it started...but it was a while ago:  Quinn started saying the 'S' word.  Of course, he picked this word up from someone else...wink wink...

At first, we forbid him to say the word (in either German or English).  That worked out really well.  When we pressed harder, he would find creative ways to say the 's' word without us being able to get upset with him.  Example:  Mama, er sagte Scheiße (Mama, he said shit).  Technically, he said the word, but in a form of reporting a fact.  He really liked this, because he was just stating a fact....but allowed him to say the forbidden word.

Then we got creative:  he remained forbidden to say the 'S' word, but, in return, when he caught either Eva or I saying the 'S' word, he got a Euro for his piggy bank.  This turned out to be very effective.  This rule spread to Tanta Nina, Oma (who never swears), and Opa.  Quinn had fun with Opa...who eventually prepaid quite a few S words.

While Eva never swears, when she chats on the phone with Nina, the S words tend to come out faster...which is why I think Quinn tends to want to be around Nina when she is on the phone.

Last night, we watched Germany play Portugal in the European (soccer) championships.  It was a bit late for Quinn...but, it is the Euro Cup...and is special.

I think Quinn will be sitting next to me these next games:  he got 3 EUR from me last night.
